Are such essays and talks useful, or are they just preaching to the choir? Does anyone listen and tune in, or is it just noise to anyone who's not already on the same channel?

Sadly my experience over the last few years tells me the latter--that people begin with their assumptions and work backwards from there. If so, we may just be fucked. Optimism kills.
